Find Duplicate Files by Different Comparison Methods
CloneScan lets you choose how duplicate files are detected:
- Name – find files with the same file name.
- Size – find files with the same file size.
- Name and Size – narrow results by matching both file name and size.
- Content SHA-1 – detect files with identical content using SHA-1 hashing.
The content comparison mode is ideal when you need a more reliable duplicate file scan, especially when files have different names but identical data.
Detect Duplicate Folders
In addition to duplicate files, CloneScan can also search for folder clones. It analyzes directory contents and builds signatures for folders based on their files and subfolders. This helps you locate repeated directory structures, copied project folders, duplicated backups, and redundant archives.
File Mask Filtering
CloneScan supports file masks, so you can limit scans to specific file types. For example, you can scan only selected extensions or file patterns instead of processing everything. Multiple masks can be entered using common separators such as commas, semicolons, spaces, or vertical bars.
Parallel Hashing for Faster Content Scans
When using SHA-1 content comparison, CloneScan can compute file hashes in parallel using multiple processor threads. This helps speed up scans on modern multi-core Windows systems, especially when checking large collections of files.
Grouped Duplicate Results
Duplicate files and folders are displayed in clear groups. Each group shows related clones together, making it easier to decide which items should be kept and which can be removed. Duplicate groups are sorted by total size, helping you focus first on the duplicates that may recover the most disk space.
Safe Deletion to Recycle Bin
CloneScan does not permanently erase selected files or folders immediately. Checked items are moved to the Windows Recycle Bin, giving you a safer way to clean duplicates while keeping the option to restore deleted items if needed.
Export Duplicate Results to CSV
CloneScan can export scan results to CSV files for reporting, review, archiving, or further analysis in spreadsheet software. You can export duplicate file results and duplicate folder results.
